24 FEB 2012: Woof, I’m Toby! I’m a two-year-old, neutered male pit bull terrier mix. My owner abandoned me so his roommate brought me here to find a new home. I love to play—I really love to play. My favorite game is fetch, I play so much though that sometimes I get a little sore. I’m looking for an active family who has lots of time to teach me new tricks. I want to go on lots of adventures with you, and if you have another dog I might even like him too! If you want a buddy to have fun with then I’m your guy.

9 FEB 2012: From the MSPCA, Pet of the Week; Hi, I’m Joi! I’m a one-year-old, spayed female pit bull terrier mix. I was brought here when I was just one day old and have grown up here, the staff is nice but I wish I had a family. I have learned so much while being here. I can run on a treadmill, power a scooter made for a dog, and I even completed Beginner’s Obedience. Everyone tells me I’m so smart, but I have a lot of other things to offer too! I need a home with an active family and maybe even another dog to play with. Do you think you have what it takes?

12 OCT 2011: Sadie is a 9-yr-old, spayed, female Minature Pinscher looking for a new home. Sadie’s human lost her job and her home due to the economy, so she is currently living with relatives who do not want Sadie in their home. Sadie has lived with cats and another dog, however, she does not appreciate very young children. Sadie is in excellent health and up to date on vaccinations; she weighs about 20 lbs. and stands 13 inches at the shoulder. She has earned her Canine Good Citizen title, and continues to train in obedience and agility. If interested, please e-mail sadiedobe@yahoo.com (serious inquiries only please).

Zappa’s a young snuggle-puss who can’t figure out why his people brought him to the vet and left him there. They say they don’t want him because he nipped his owner. But that only happened once—after the man shattered a glass in front of him!—and Zappa hasn’t bitten anyone since. Now he lives in a cage in the vet clinic, frightened by the hissing and growling of other cats, who aren’t too happy to be in the hospital either. At least they get to go home, which is where Zappa longs to be. Chasing balls is his second favorite pastime. Cuddling a friendly human who’ll give him chin and head rubs is what he lives for. Zappa is robustly healthy, a youngster full of life and love. He’s being weaned off Prozac, prescribed to calm him; like people, some cats are more
sensitive than others. A stable, loving environment with the patient guidance of
a cat-savvy owner is the cure for what ails this sweet boy. Because Zappa fears angry cats—and even well-mannered felines may throw hissy fits from time to time—he must be a solo pet in an adult household. Young children would upset him too. Sensitive souls, human or animal, need tranquility. Give Zappa the peace he craves, and he’ll give you years of love and devotion.
16 June 2011: Shadow (Mastiff/Lab Mix) Shadow is a beautiful 5 month old Mastiff/Lab mix (dad is a Brindle Mastiff, mom a Lab) who was rescued after being surrendered by owners who couldn't take care of the litter. She is a friendly, goofy, social pup who got her name because she loves her people so much she sticks as close as a shadow! Her favorite things are snuggling, chewing on her puppy toys, and playing with her puppy pals.
Shadow settled in very quickly in her foster home, where she has been working on training that should be continued in her forever home. She has mastered some basic obedience (sit, down, working on stay) and will settle nicely in her crate (though she would much prefer to be with her people). She is mostly housetrained, but needs to be let out at regular intervals. She has a natural puppy curiosity in the resident cat, but is not aggressive.
This wonderful dog will thrive in a loving home where she will get lots of attention, affection, toys, training, and time with her people, along with people who understand she will grow to be a large adult dog. Due to her size and medium energy level, she is recommended to a home with kids 8+ and larger dogs (if there are any in the house). She is about 45 pounds, healthy, spayed, and UTD on shots. To adopt or learn more about Shadow, you must fill out an adoption APPLICATION. (www.gdrne.org/adoption-application) [Adoption Fee: $425, 5/30/11]~
19 June 2011: This sweet, healthy 4-year-old in Central Mass. is scheduled for euthanasia—by his owner—on June 17 because he’s "odd man out." We need to find him a safe haven, foster or adoptive, immediately and will bring him to a committed home within 100 miles.
Born feral, Baby has spent 3 of his 4 years living indoors exclusively. That was the choice he made as a kitten, scampering through an open door into the apartment of the woman who’d been feeding him and settling right in.
She’s moving next week and can only take 1 of her 2 cats; poor Baby is being left behind. His owner prefers he be euthanized than live in a shelter cage. We prefer that this young, healthy boy go to a home, ideally one with a feline pal for him to hang around with. Baby is crazy about his owner’s other cat.
Baby is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and fel/fiv/hwt negative. He uses the litterbox and grooms himself fastidiously; his pure white coat (with distinguished grey markings on his head) never gets matted.
A bit of a ‘fraidy cat, he’ll hide from strangers as many cats do. Though he plops himself at his owner’s feet and gazes up at her adoringly, he doesn’t like to be touched much—yet. We believe that will change with time and a secure, kind environment. After all, it was his decision to come inside, to trust humans.
Let Baby know his trust was well placed, that people do care. Please give this beautiful young boy a chance to live his life by sharing yours.
Please give her a chance to live it.Help her know the joy of unconditional love. We’re betting she’ll return it to you tenfold. Contact Teri teriw13@yahoo.com 508-735-0786 or the Animal Control Officer 617-908-7479
10 November 2010: A couple of months of foster care is needed for a dog whose family is undergoing a very serious medical emergency and cannot be available to care for the dog. The dog is a spayed female, 9 month old, Shepherd mix, weighing about 32lbs. She loves cats and other dogs, is housebroken and obedience trained. UPDATE: Dog is in foster home at this time...

7 December 2008: Sweet Tabby needs home. Cat was picked up by a college student and brought home to be adopted by a neighbor. Although a very nice cat, she doesn't like other cats. She would be great in a home without any other pets. As described by the college student who found her: She is almost a year old, she is really sweet and gentle with people, but a little nervous- she does not like it when you touch her front paws- she'll try to play and her nails are sharp...and she does not like to be picked up too much, although the longer she stayed with me she let me pick her up for a short period of time...she likes to eat a lot and needs a lot of attention and meows and talks quite a bit...she had a litter of kittens that are staying at the vet in worcester right now- she has a heart
murmur but it is not serious and she was tested for feline leukemia but it came back negative...and she had flea medicine and two doses of worm medicine...She's a very sweet, very interactive cat and likes to share a bed...we had a morning ritual and she would jump up or put her paw no my face because she wanted to be fed... Contact the Animal Control Officer at 617-993-2724 for more information.UPDATE: ADOPTED

PLEASE ADOPT ME!

HELP SAVE “ANGUS”
(UPDATE: "Angus" has been adopted into a great home, is doing very well and is extremely happy!)
Many thanks to everyone who made donations, and especially for everyone who cared enough to do something for a guy named "Angus" and give him a fair shot at life. -John Maguranis ACO
“Angus” was featured in the Belmont Citizen Herald on January 25th in a desperate attempt to find his owners after he was found laying motionless on Pleasant Street in 5 degree weather on January 17th. No one has replied and he now waits at City Cats in Arlington for hope. Normally, any animal that is picked up by Animal Control gets put up for adoption after aggressive efforts are made to find their owners fail. The problem with “Angus” is that he was brought in with what’s called, “a wound of unknown origin”. Because we have no vaccination history on him, he must be quarantined for 6 months. With no owner, he must either be quarantined at Belmont Animal Hospital (the town’s contract pound
facility) at the expense of the Town, or be euthanized.
“Angus” is an extremely affectionate, healthy, young male cat who captured the hearts of the Animal Control Officer and the folks at Belmont Animal Hospital. We desperately looked for a solution to keep “Angus” alive, so we contacted City Cats of Arlington and told them of his fate. They have agreed to take “Angus,” neuter him, care for him and hold him for the six months. What excellent people!
City Cats has accepted “Angus” into their facility with a promise that donations will help support and off-set the huge cost of housing, vaccinations, feeding, and neutering him for the next six months. City Cats is a small veterinary practice that specializes in cats. They took “Angus” because they care so much about animals and fell in love with him the moment they saw him.
Please help “Angus” and City Cats by sending a donation in his name. “Angus” desperately needs your help to get him through the six month quarantine so that he can be adopted out into a loving home. Please send a generous donation to:

Thanks so much to Belmont Animal Hospital and City Cats for caring so much and making such a difference to the strays that are brought through their doors far too often.
