Arlington, Belmont, Cambridge Stormwater Flooding Board

Attendees: Clarissa Rowe, Arlington; Jennifer Wright, Cambridge; Steve Kaiser, Cambridge Resident; Roger Frymire, Cambridge Resident; John Bean, Arlington Engineer; Elsie Fiore, Arlington Resident

1.      Election of Minutes Preparer - Jennifer Wright
2.      Tufts Students' Report - brief discussion about the importance to work with the University in the future and for the working group to discuss prioritizing areas and issues for analysis (to be put on the future agendas)
3.      Discussion of Legislative Follow-Up (Will Brownsberger) - No discussion
4.      Cambridge Meeting with the DCR - Jennifer Wright stated that the City of Cambridge would be meeting with representatives from the DCR; she volunteered to raise the issue of channel maintenance
5.      Discussion of the Cradock Progress - No discussion
6.      Engineers'' Walk Through - A new engineer (John Bean) has been hired in Arlington and a request was made to have a walk through of the area with representatives from Arlington, Belmont, and Cambridge
7.      Steve Kaiser's email - please note that his email is skaiser@fells.org
8.      Notification System Status - a request was made of Cambridge for additional public notification of stormwater system functionality.  Jennifer Wright agreed to relay the request back to the City Engineer.
9.      FEMA Study - the new maps are scheduled to be released for public comment in September 2007.  The group agreed that the maps should be reviewed and commented on; a meeting on October 16th was set.
10.     Other Business- Clarissa Rowe raised the issue of extending the membership to the group to include Somerville.  Jennifer Wright raised the concern of the joint powers agreement and the expansion of the scope of the group.  This discussion was tabled pending more information.  Roger Frymire stated that bacteria counts and algae blooms have spiked within both the Mystic River sub-watershed and Charles River watershed.  Steve Kaiser stated his view on the need to dredge the Alewife channel.  Reviewed the proposed agenda for October 16th.
