Alcohol Beverage Licensing Committee Annual Report 2007
The Committee discussed the following topics in 2007:
-       Licenses for Off-premises Consumption
-       New License Applications
-       License Renewals for 2008

Licenses for Off-premises Consumption
In late spring, the Selectmen held a meeting where the applicants for an off-premises alcohol license would present to the Board. The Committee was asked to attend and hold their review meeting as a sub-set of the Selectmen's meeting. After each set of presentations (wine & malt, all-alcohol), the Committee met briefly and developed general feedback to be provided to the Selectmen as part of the review process.

New License Applications
The Committee met with the deMagistris family who submitted an All-Alcohol license request for a new Italian restaurant, tentatively names Bel Aia, to be situated in the old firehouse in Belmont Center. The Committee reviewed the plans, proposed menu, and interviewed the principals. After deliberation, the Committee recommended to the Board of Selectmen that they granted an All-Alcohol license to the new restaurant.

License Renewals 2008
In December, the Committee reviewed the license renewals for the following Wine and Malt licensees: Asai, Brothers Pizza, Patou, Shangri-La, Stone Hearth Pizza, Kashish, and Pho & Thai. In addition, the Committee reviewed the license renewals for the 2 all-alcohol licenses for Savinos and Bel Aia. The Committee recommended license renewal for these licensees to the Board of Selectmen, which was subsequently granted. As part of the renewal process, the Committee identified those areas of the renewals that were not yet complete and presented their findings to the Town. The Town Administrator's office worked with the licensees to ensure all actions were completed. The All-Alcohol license renewal for the Belmont Country Club was reviewed and recommended for approval. Said approval was subsequently granted.

In summary, as of December 31, 2006, there are eight (8) Beer and Malt licenses - all have been granted. There are three (3) All-Alcohol licenses for restaurants - two have been granted, one is inactive. In addition, there are three off-premises alcohol licenses. Of the two beer & malt licenses, one has been granted and one is available. The single all-alcohol license has been granted.

Many thanks to Committee members Carolyn Bunyon, Janice Ellard, Lawrence Grosbaum, Maryann Scali, and Sal Maniscalco for their time and effort.

Respectfully submitted,
Andrew V. Levin, Chairman
