The Belmont Bikeway Planning Committee did not hold any committee meetings during 2007 although its members continue to attend meetings of other committees and assist in providing information on bikeway-related issues including discussions held in various forums on traffic calming measures in Belmont and alternate transportation modes other than the automobile.
As 2008 begins there increasing pressure to follow the successful development of a large number of bikeways and community paths throughout the state with the development of the former Mass Central Rail right-of-way into a regional bikeway from Alewife Station through Waltham out to Hadley, MA. With the final completion of the "Big Dig", funding may become more readily available to implement this important project.
The Belmont Bikeway Planning Committee continues to work with the Belmont Friends of Community Paths about the steps required in Belmont to position the Town to take advantage of this regional push to advance this important community amenity.
