Local Emergency Planning Committee Annual Report 2005
LOCAL EMERGENCY PLANNING COMMITTEE

In compliance with Federal Regulations the Town of Belmont established a Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) in 2003. The LEPC is the local body that handles emergency planning and community right-to-know reporting on hazardous and toxic chemicals. The LEPC is comprised of Town Departments, industry representatives and community members.

Through the efforts of Mr. Leo Saidnawey, the institution of a neighborhood Notification System took place for the residences in the Purecoat North area. This system consists of an automatic telephone notification system, which automatically calls the residents in that area when they need to be notified of an incident involving Purecoat North. Enrollment took place, with numerous area residents signing up, and the system is up and running. To his credit, Mr. Saidnawey’s efforts were covered by Crisis Response Journal in an article that he authored.

The Commonwealth launched a new on-line tool for the Town and LEPC to update and maintain its Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan. This will be used through the year to maintain the plan.

I would like to thank the members of the Committee for their work and input during the past year. I would like to additionally thank Mr. Robert Gad III for his involvement as the recording secretary for the Committee, and Mr. Ernest Fay for his efforts in enrolling residents in the MessageOne program.

Respectfully submitted,
Asst. Fire Chief Angus Davison, LEPC Chairman
