The Building Service Department continues its mission to provide professional maintenance and management to its public buildings. Our goal is to make the department a full service operation, centralizing all aspects of building maintenance and related cost into one location from overseeing all systems required to maintain safe buildings to tracking and processing operational costs for these buildings.
During 2004, we continued our repair work to the HVAC system in the Town Hall, including the installation of a veeder root system, an early warning detection system, to the Town Hall fuel tank. At the Police Station, we continued improvements to their life safety systems and replaced the deteriorating flooring in the rear first floor hallway. The Belmont Memorial Library has had the top front stairs repaired, and for safety purposes, we have installed railings and gates cordoning off the lower stairs. In coordination with Chief David Frizzell, the operational and administrative offices of the Waverley Fire Station relocated to the Town Yard.
The Roof Repair Project continued with work being done at the Wellington School, the Highway and Water department roofs. The Roof Repair Project is an ongoing capital budget project enveloping all town buildings including schools.
The newly renovated Annex Building has been officially renamed the Homer Municipal Building with an expected completion date in the spring of 2005. As the Town Hall Complex renovation project draws to a close, we have been very busy planning for a new state of the art expandable telephone system for the Town Hall Complex, as well as a security system for these newly renovated buildings. This process has led us to begin the discussion of security for our town buildings as a town wide issue for the safety of our residents, employees and children in our schools. We continued to work closely with the Committee both in financial issues, furniture, and other building related issues. We are also working with selectmen Firenze on a parking policy for our return to the complex.
As always, we continue to provide daily and weekly maintenance, minor repairs and on call service to our Town buildings as well as outdoor grounds keeping and snow removal.
Respectfully submitted,
Wm. Kevin Looney, Manager
