In compliance with Federal Regulations the Town of Belmont has established a Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC). The LEPC is the local body that handles emergency planning and community right-to-know reporting on hazardous and toxic chemicals. The LEPC is comprised of Town Departments, industry representatives and community members.
The Board of Selectmen made initial appointments to the Committee. The LEPC officially held its first meeting during 2003. The Committee satisfied all of the requirements for “Start-up” certification. The Committee received approval from the Massachusetts State Emergency Response Commission in May of 2003. The Committee is in continuing in the process for the next step in the certification process.
Additional appointments to the LEPC to fully populate the Committee will allow us to complete the next step of certification. The Committee will review the Town’s Hazardous Materials Emergency Plan and arrange for appropriate training for Town employees.
I would like to thank the members of the Committee for their work and input during the past year. I would like to additionally thank Mr. Robert Gad III for his involvement as the recording secretary for the Committee.
Respectfully submitted,
Asst. Fire Chief David L. Frizzell, LEPC Chairman
