Alcohol Beverage Licensing Committee Annual Report 2002
ALCOHOL BEVERAGE LICENSING COMMITTEE

The committee met several times during the year to discuss applications and the policy of the beer and wine licenses that have been accepted by the Board of Selectmen.

The committee reviews each license renewal application.  Reports from the Health, Fire and Police Department are an important part of the review process.

Five (5) licenses were recommended for approval to the Selectmen.  The following establishments are licensed to sell Beer and Wine:  Manetas, Inc. dba Andros Diner, JDJ, Inc dba Asai, Ling Garden Restaurant, Inc. dba, Ling Garden, Shangri-La Inc, dba Shangri-La, and Brothers Pizza.  It was noted that special approval by the Board of Selectmen was required this year.  The restaurant was required to reassure the Board that they met the provisions set forth in December 2001.  That over 50% of their revenues was derived from a sitdown restaurant.  The Selectmen voted to approve the license

The Town has eight (8) licenses for beer and wine and one all-alcohol license in place.  Two new restaurants applied:  the committee met with Kashish going over their plans and discussing their concerns.  Their application was recommended for approval to the Board of Selectmen.  It was so approved.

The second restaurant:  Patou met with committee and applied for their license with the provision that they met all the requirements of the Town for building a new restaurant.  The Selectmen so approved.   The restaurant plans to open in early Spring 2003.

We now have one license remaining from the eight (8).

Two invaluable charter members of the committee resigned this year.  Neal Winston, who served as Clerk, helped to formulate our Town's guidelines and share his legal expertise. The other member, Garrett Barry, served as Vice-Chair, was our guide on insurance policy.  We wish them the best. They will be sorely missed.

Two new members joined the committee, Philip Richmond and Eric Smith, who is serving as Clerk. The committee will continue working with the various Boards and Committees on the licensing process for new applications as well as the renewal process at the end of the year.

Respectfully submitted,
Maryann L. Scali, Chair
