Ice Skating Lessons for children grades 1 and older
This program will introduce the fundamental moves, forward and backward skating, stops, crossovers and turns.  Upon completion of these levels, skaters will have the basic knowledge of the sport enabling them to advance to more specialized areas of skating such as figure skating, dance and hockey.

Saturdays at the Viglirolo Skating Rink
Classes consist of 30 minutes of instruction followed by 10 minutes of individual practice

Time:
Grades 1 & 2: 10:00 or 11:20 a.m.
Grades 1, 2, 3 & 4:  10:40 a.m.
2011-12:
Session 1: November 5, 12, 19, 26, Dec. 3, 10, 17
Session 2: January 7, 14, 21, 28, February 4, 11, 18
Fee: $80.
A Recreation Department membership is required for this program.

Requirements:
HELMETS MUST BE WORN DURING THESE LESSONS, FACE PROTECTION IS RECOMMENDED.  SINGLE BLADE SKATES ONLY.
Skates should be a size smaller than shoe size as bigger skates hinder progress.  It is recommended that you purchase form a good sporting goods shop to insure proper fit.  Do not have the picks shaved off.  Only one pair of light socks should be worn.
When lacing skates, remember they should be comfortable to snug through the toe area, snug over the arch and up the leg and tight through the ankle.  You should be able to insert one finger down the side top of the boot when laced.
Hats, mittens and jackets should be worn during the lesson, and helmets should be labeled front and back with the child's name so that it can be seen easily by the coach.
